As an environmental and social psychologist she focuses on sustainability topics such as the social-ecological transformation, the mobility, and energy transition as well as the digital transformation.

Background: Transdisciplinary environmental social sciences

Vivian Frick completed her PhD in environmental psychology in 2022 at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg as a member of the SÖF junior research group “Digitalization and socio-ecological transformation” on sufficiency in the digital transformation. She previously worked at the Institute of Sustainable Development (INE) at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and studied psychology with a minor in political science at the Universities of Basel and Zurich. She was involved in the initiative Psychology in Environmental Protection (IPU) and supports the “Bits und Bäume” movement.

Focus: Understanding and promoting civil society engagement

Vivian Frick's habilitation focuses on a better understanding of civic engagement for healthy and sustainable mobility:

• What motivates people to get involved in the mobility transition? What role do environmental awareness or health-related traffic risks play in this?
• How can a committed civil society be promoted, and how can the mobility transition be shaped democratically and socially?

... is co-head of the AMBER junior research group. He holds a doctorate in psychology and works as a research assistant in the Department of Health Psychology at Freie Universität Berlin. In addition to his research, he teaches various bachelor and master seminars in psychology.

Background: Behavioral and health psychology

Jan Keller completed his doctorate at Freie Universität Berlin in 2018. In his research, he investigates which factors are associated with changes in health behaviors (such as physical activity, healthy diet, healthy smartphone use) and how health behaviors can be promoted with the help of digital interventions. Jan Keller gained scientific experience during two stays abroad at Columbia University in New York (2016) and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (2017).

Focus: Understanding and promoting habits for healthy mobility

In the AMBER junior research group and as part of his habilitation, Jan Keller is investigating habits of mobility behavior. His research questions are:

• How stable are existing mobility habits? What approaches exist to change habits in the direction of active mobility?
• How are mobility habits linked to health and sustainability?

... is a research associate in the research field “Business, Value Chains and Consumption” at the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW). The sustainability scientist investigates ways of shaping a socio-ecological transformation. Her focus lies on the topics of mobility, sustainable corporate management, circular economy and public procurement.

Background: Sustainability science and leadership

Christina Klusch studied environmental and sustainability sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg as well as in London (UK) and Karlskrona (Sweden). One focus of her education was on transdisciplinary, strategic leadership in the context of complex systems. In her final theses on the transformation potential of the Economy for the Common Good and municipal sustainability planning, she investigated how companies and municipalities can support social change towards sustainability. During her studies, she worked on ecosystem services at the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research at the University of Oldenburg.

Focus: Involving companies in the mobility transition

For her doctorate in the AMBER project, Christina Klusch is investigating how companies can promote climate and health benefits through mobility management. Her research questions are:

• How can companies make it easier for their employees to switch to active mobility through organizational leadership
• What changes are needed for this, for example in terms of (infra)structures and corporate culture?

... is a research associate at the Institute of Meteorology at Freie Universität Berlin. The climate scientist specializes in the field of urban climatology: cities are diverse and complex places – here Siiri Tunn uses measurement data and models to investigate the effects of climate change.

Background: Environmental Science and Technology and urban climate

Siiri Tunn worked at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as a research associate on the project “Stadtgrün wertschätzen II”. She used the PALM-4U urban climate model to simulate various weather scenarios for different parts of the city. Previously, she studied Environmental Science and Technology with a focus on climatology, air pollution control and modeling at the Technical University of Berlin. She worked there for three years as a student assistant at the Department of Climatology.

Focus: Understanding the influence of weather on mobility behavior

In her doctoral thesis in the AMBER project, Siiri Tunn wants to find out whether and how people's mobility changes under different weather conditions. The focus is on the following question:

• What are the current urban climate conditions and what influence do they have on walking, cycling, using public transport and the car?

... is a research associate in the Department of Health Psychology at Freie Universität Berlin. The psychologist is involved in climate change and health-related projects and conducts research on healthier and more climate-friendly behavior.

Background: Public Health

Karsten Valerius studied psychology at the University of Greifswald and conducted research on barriers to accessing psychiatric and psychotherapeutic services as a research assistant at University of Leipzig Medical Center. At the Center for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern, he worked on how to raise awareness of an increased risk of forest fires. Other freelance and project-related work by Karsten Valerius includes work for the Berlin think tank “Das Progressive Zentrum” in the context of structural change and challenges for structurally weaker regions. He has also worked for e-fect in various dialog processes on mobility and energy supply in the past.

Focus: Researching the framework conditions of active mobility

For his doctorate in the AMBER project, Karsten Valerius will be looking at how individual factors and external conditions of active mobility relate to health:

• How do different mobility behaviors affect quality of life and health? What role does traffic noise play in this?
• What individual and infrastructural barriers and (municipal) political challenges exist on the way to a healthier, more socially equitable and climate-friendly mobility?

Lion Ketterlinus completed his Bachelor's degree in Sustainability Economics at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. Since 2021, he has been studying for a Master's degree in “Integrated Natural Resource Management” at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Previously, he worked as a student assistant at the Chair of Quantitative Methods in Economics (University of Oldenburg) and at the Institute for Cooperatives at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His interests include cooperative research, food policy and urban climate policy.

Antonia Sladek studied European Ethnology at the Humboldt University in Berlin – in her Bachelor's degree with a minor in German Literature, and in her Master's degree with a focus on media anthropology. As a Humboldt Foundation scholarship holder, she was part of the transdisciplinary research class “Sustainability and Global Justice”. After her studies, she completed a traineeship in the field of scientific communication at the IÖW and completed further training in communication management at the German Press Academy.
